Project Description
The City of Los Altos is starting construction of the San Antonio Road Streetscape project on the section of San Antonio Road between West Edith Avenue and First Street. The project will improve the pedestrian and vehicular experience along a key access route to the downtown and includes the following key elements:
- Widening of the existing sidewalk along the downtown-side of San Antonio to make it accessible for disabled people and strollers (ADA compliant) between driveway entrances to Parking Plaza 3
- Constructing a 4-foot tall planted wall to screen views of cars in Parking Plaza 3 along San Antonio Road
- Re-landscaping the medians along San Antonio Road between West Edith Avenue and First Street
- Creating rain gardens in Parking Plaza 3 to capture storm water runoff
Construction Schedule
- Construction started on January 7, 2013
- Estimated completion is June 2013
Construction Impacts on Traffic and Parking
- Approximately 50 parking stalls in Parking Plaza 3 along San Antonio Road will be unavailable during a portion of the construction period
- San Antonio road will be reduced to one-lane in either direction between 9am and 3pm when the median landscape improvements are being completed
- Businesses will still be able to have garbage and deliveries in the loading zones in Parking Plaza 3
- When construction is complete, a total of 9 parking spaces will be permanently removed in order to accommodate the sidewalk widening.
